Hi, Mama! Congratulations on Welcoming Your Newest Member into the Family Fold!

I'm Debbie at Little Bodhi Photography, it's wonderful to have you here! I am a Bristol newborn photographer with a love for capturing natural, heartfelt, and magical motherhood moments right in the comfort of your family home.

I believe photographs of your baby's first days and weeks should be authentic, a true reflection of the love, warmth and uniqueness of your family. I offer in-home newborn sessions, to allow you and your darling newborn to feel relaxed and the you-est version of you, ensuring that we naturally press pause on those tender doting moments, tiny toes, and all the cuddles in between. As a mother and family photographer, I understand how important it is to preserve these precious yet hazy early days and that's why I'm here to answer the number one question I get asked by expectant mamas, 'when is the best time to book a newborn photoshoot?'

When to Book a Newborn Photoshoot

If you are looking to book a newborn photoshoot, I recommend getting in touch with me when you're around around 20 weeks pregnant. This gives us plenty of time to chat through your vision, discuss ideas, and secure a date within your preferred timeframe after your baby's arrival. By pre-booking your session, you ensure that I have availability during the 8-week window after your baby's birth.

I Understand Due Dates Are Not Set in Stone

Babies have their own timelines. If your little one arrives earlier or later than expected, don't worry! I maintain flexibility in my schedule to accommodate these changes, ensuring that we capture your newborn when it is best for you.

When is The Best Time for a Newborn Photoshoot?

Any time from birth up to 8 weeks is ideal for newborn photos. Newborn babies are at their most precious in their first two weeks of life and this is the time many photographers recommend scheduling your newborn photoshoot. During this time, babies are still sleepy, incredibly curly, and wonderfully cooperative.

HOWEVER, and this is important, this may not necessarily be the best time for YOU. The first couple of weeks with a newborn can be exhausting, intense and let's be real a bit of a shock to the system. Perhaps you are a mama who wishes to observe the first 40 days tradition after birth and so a newborn photoshoot may not fit into the classic two-week timeframe. Or maybe you'd prefer to wait until you have gotten into a rhythm with your new baby before inviting a newborn photographer into your home. Whenever you feel ready for a newborn photography session, THAT is the time to create your keepsake newborn photos.

Before You Book Your Newborn Photoshoot, Consider Two Things:

  1. what do you want from your newborn photoshoot?
  2. what feels right for you and your family?

Is it important to you to capture the fluffy shoulders, flaky toes and those gorgeous sleepy and curly newborn poses? If so, the first 14 days after your baby's birth will be the best time to do this. Or would you prefer to wait a little longer and document a time when life with your sweet newborn feels a little calmer, a little more predictable, and a little more enjoyable?

While newborn sessions can take place any time up to 8 weeks, it is of course entirely up to you. Once your baby arrives you will have a better idea of how you feel about and if you change your mind, I am always happy to reschedule your newborn session (where I have availability) to a time that suits you and your crew better.
